Artist Statement
Our society is so obsessed with creating perfection that we turn a blind eye to the natural beauty all around us. I’ve always viewed the world a little differently, and, through my artwork, I try to show what I see: the small joys of life, things we walk by daily without noticing. I draw inspiration from everything around me.
I love using lines to direct interest and create movement throughout my works, but, being fairly new to art, I’m still working to figure out what I like and form my personal style, so I love to experiment. I find the way things interact with each other and overlap incredibly hypnotizing. Puzzle pieces, tree trunks, ribbons, hung up in their little details is a delicate beauty that I hope to one day be able to replicate. That’s my main goal, so I’d consider my art to be conceptual rather than formal.
I’m really excited about learning to raku fire our pieces. I think that’s going to add awesome, uncontrolled details to my work that I can just picture myself loving. I’m also looking forward to getting more sculptural with clay and, later, making vases.
